Trust Shawl

A big, cozy hug for your shoulders, the Trust Shawl is my favorite shawl for any non-summer occasion. It's warm, simple, and practical but also beautiful and elegant. Wear it with a shawl cuff over your shoulder to keep the shawl in place and your arms free.

This shawl design is one of four shawls in the Guiding Principles Collection, which addresses the aspirations that we have for the new year as well as the characteristics we will need to possess throughout the year in order to achieve these aspirations.

When the future is uncertain, how do you react? When everything turns upside down, how do you feel? Many things throughout the coming year can’t be controlled, good or bad. An instinctive reaction is to stress, to worry, to be anxious, to resort to fear and frustration; but these reactions cause harm and damage our well-being.

The Trust Shawl originates from my desire to trust rather than exercise my anxiety – trust that everything will work out, that good can come out of every situation, and that it is ok to relax.

Design Inspiration

This shawl represents the solid, grounded things that we can depend on – the things that carry weight and won’t be easily moved. I used one solid, deep-toned color and repeated familiar, weighty, structured motifs throughout the shawl. There are no surprises, and you can trust what you’re getting into: just some knits and purls. It is designed as a ¾ shawl, representative of a big hug that you can trust on for comfort and coziness.

You love an accessory that is beautiful but simple, something that would fit into a variety of semi-casual and business events. The Trust Shawl is just that: you'll get several compliments on how much folks like it, but it's simple enough that it doesn't draw a lot of attention. Plus, it's practical, warm, and easy to style with just about any outfit, from a dress to jeans.

My favorite way to wear the shawl is with the cast on point sitting on my left shoulder and the shawl wrapped around me, with a shawl cuff holding the ends in place over my right shoulder. It looks great and it stays in place really well!

You're exhausted and it's time for your evening self-care knitting. This is the time you said aside just for you, and it's precious, so you want to be intentional about making something you love.

The Trust Shawl is perfect for your evening knits because the techniques are simple, the chevron section makes it pretty easy to read your knitting, and the "random" dashed section is mostly plain stockinette. It's a fun and simple knit, but it's unique and engaging. Soothing and enjoyable.

Knitting the Shawl
The Trust Shawl is mostly knits and purls - simple stitches you can trust in - but it also includes a garter tab cast on and M1 stitches.

All of my patterns include clear, step-by-step (written and charted) instructions and linked video technique tutorials that walk you through the pattern with confidence and joy. I am also available for pattern support if you have questions.
