With Love From the North Mittens
Fun, quick to knit, super cozy, and adorable... what more could you want in a mitten? This design features a colorwork heart on the palm of each mitten to add a bit of love to the recipient's chilly day.
The techniques includes within this pattern include twisted ribbing, increases, decreases and colorwork. You can choose to work stranded colorwork, intarsia, or duplicate stitch. I used a version of stranded colorwork, but since designing this pattern, I've fallen in love with duplicate stitch and would probable use that if I were to knit the pattern again. This is a great pattern for the knitter interested in learning how to knit a mitten and/or colorwork. More information on techniques can be found here.
These mittens use 30-80 yards of super bulky yarn in the main color and 8-22 yards of super bulky yarn in the contrasting color. For more information on yarn requirements, click here.
I've always loved hearts. I really can't say why, but seeing a heart makes me smile, makes me feel loved, and makes me feel warm + fuzzy inside. So, it's only fitting that one of my first design ideas was to create a design featuring a heart motif.
With this design, the heart worn on the palm of the recipients' hands is meant to serve as a reminder that they are loved and appreciated, to make them feel warm and cozy, even when they're out in the blistery cold weather: doing chores, building a snowman, walking to school, or climbing the sledding hill.
For a bit of extra warmth, I added a felt lining that I slide into my mittens.
The techniques in the With Love From the North Mittens pattern are perfect for the knitter looking to learn how to knit in the round and/or work colorwork for the first time. Specifically the pattern uses increases, decreases, knits, purls, and knitting through the back loop.
For the colorwork, you can choose to work intarsia, duplicate stitch, or stranded colorwork.
All of my patterns include clear, step-by-step (written and charted) instructions and linked video technique tutorials that walk you through the pattern with confidence and joy. I am also available for pattern support if you have questions.
